Smallville Gripe Session

Dear Smallville Writers,

Why do you insist on pretending that Chloe doesn't exist when she's not on screen?  First when she was MIA it was like Oliver was the only one who noticed it, now, Oliver comes back from Star City without ONCE mentioning his wife.

You don't have this problem with other characters.  I've been paying attention.  In the episode Dominion, you successfully mentioned:

Slade
Jor El
Bart
J'onn J'onz
Darkseid
All 3 of Darkseid's minions
Emil

So why?  Why no mention of Chloe?  A simply acknowledgement of her existence is all I ask.  Seriously.  I could think of about 89 different ways you could have just slipped her name in in order to do her character justice.  For instance:

"Oliver!  What are you doing here?  How's CHLOE?"

"Hey Clark, I came to help.  CHLOE says hi."

"What do you mean we're trapped in the phantom zone and it's going to self destruct?  I have to get back to MY WIFE!"

"Tess and CHLOE and I took shifts at Watchtower."

"CHLOE's been calling every few hours asking if there have been any developments."

"You're going after a weapon to destroy Darkseid?  Okay, what did CHLOE have to say about it?"


Really, just a little one-liner would have been sufficient.  Instead, it actually detracts from the plot-line not to mention her because all of her fans get distracted by the fact that everyone's acting like she doesn't exist.  We all want to know where she is and why she doesn't care that her husband has been missing for three weeks.

I don't know what the problem is.  Like I said, you have no problem mentioning other characters, so why does she get banished to oblivion now that she's not a show regular?

Yeah! You are right! Chloe is one of the main characters, she played a great role in Clark's becoming Superman and all, but in this season they are completely banishing her! It's not fair at all. Not to mention that she's Oliver's wife, so he HAVE to be mentioning her from time to time!Aaargh, that really sucks

Really??? I can't believe I missed that. Still, I guess I was more distracted by the fact that Oliver never mentioned her, seeing as the last time we saw them, they'd just gotten married.

Guess I'll have to re-watch it, then! lol I'm glad at least Lo mentioned her, then. That makes me feel better.

It didn't give us any information other then Chlollie had an easier time fitting both of their styles together when they moved in. I feel like there needed to be at least explantion why Ollie was there and she wasn't there and where was she the 3 weeks her husband left?

oh!!! I remember that now....yeah, that still feels a bit insufficient, doesn't it. It's not even really a comment about her or how she's doing, just that she finished decorating her home. Yeah, an explanation about the 3 weeks was definitely in order.

i was going to said the same, and honestly? just one time and by Lois isn´t enough! she was in smallville since the very beginning!!
The last chapters that only have Lois and Clark piss me off so much! (because i hate Lois, without reason though... like i hate Lana even is she isn´t there anymore).Now i understand why Chloe wants to scape and leave everyone all the time, Clark should be ashamed, with everything Chloe done in her life for him GOSH!!! i just want to punch them!!
well at least Chloe is looking for more heros to entertain herself...

personally, I love Lois, and Clark...well, I love him in spite of all my issues with him (which probably says something about my RL relationships, lol), and I only started really having issues with Lana when she started seeing Lex. After that it was all downhill for her.

We do have to take into consideration that it's not Chloe's show, it's Clark's, but you make a great point about how much she has done for him over the years. It's definitely an epic fail on SV's part to have him act like he's not remotely affected by her absence.

i know is Clark´s show, but i miss Chloe :( and you are so right Lana going with Lex made me hate her now i understand why i hate her!, and Lois well im just jealous she is with Clark LOL, but i insist is like Chloe doesn´t exists!! couldn´t someone call her so she could help when clark and her husband got trapped? nooo! ´cause she doesn´t exist!!

I did not watch the episode, and i dont think i am going to watch any of them until i foind out what happens in the finale. over the years thee writers have had lots of inconsistencies and forgotten things, but you're right- this is just absolutely ridiculous. I mean three weeks? when he was missing in checkmate- she had gone crazy. I completely agree about the treatment of chloes character now that she isnt a reguar anymore- or for that matter chlollies relationship in general.

But you know what makes me feel better? your wonderful wonderful fic "an origin story"
It always makes me feel better! right now i am completely ingnoring smallville and pretending that your story is what happens to ollie and chloe! so thank you for writing such a fantastic story!

exactly. I was just saying to someone else that I think considering how much Chloe has done for Clark over the last few years it's unrealistic and frankly mean (for lack of a less Middle School word) to have Clark act like he's totally unaffected by her absence. And what was the point of having Chloe and Oliver get married if they were going to have him pretend she doesn't exist? That was so completely OOC for him!

i agree with all of you. though i am worried about the coming episodes, will Ollie be okay? Will he and Chloe stay together? What is up with the writers of this show? I mean, they only have three episodes left and the whole thing seems to be crumbling around them.
